Bodacious Brown Lump

Here's another of those foods that people either love or despise - liverwurst.

While we were at the Kensington farmer's market, we purchased from The Fifth Quarter several items, including a six-inch long fat roll of liverwurst. We opened the vacuum seal this weekend and made sandwiches.

Like the paté, another offering from Scott Brennan, this too had more texture than the usual liverwurst one buys at the deli counter, and it convinced us that this is how liverwurst should be. It tasted mild, homey and authentic, with just enough texture to make it interesting but not enough to definitively reveal what it was made from - a happy balance, in my view. I love liverwurst but I don't need (or want) to know what's in there.

I'd love to see an artful picture of liverwurst, but I doubt that is possible. It's bodacious, but it's really just a brown lump.

Liverwurst needs a stylist and a publicist. If they can make Gaga appealing maybe there is a chance for liverwurst.

yum...liverwurst! I don't want to see it fancied up. I want to see it spread on a nice piece of rye bread, with a side of sauerkraut and pickles. That photo like the lump of liverwurst goodness..yum, yum and yummy.

I live loverwurst. My family always bought that corporate horror in the tube, was it Oscar Meyer? We called it "soft meat," because we were rubes. Actually saying "liverwurst" would be too Teutonic, even though we won that war.
So glad to hear about your find. Now I will have to find a way to find this find.

I am sorry about yesterday if I dominated your comments. I was so tired of the TV coverage making this such a big event. Yes it was a tradegy and we all have feelings. You bning a Military Brat caused your own feelings. The 911 event efects everybody now and probably forever.

You can kick me off your site if you want too, But that looks like Dog Turd on lettuce.

Greg, can you give me the number of Gaga's staff?

Nancy, we liverwurst lovers are just the best, aren't we?

Cookiecrumb, I only had the corporate horror, too, when I was young. You might venture across the bridge to the Kensington market of a Sunday - this Fifth Quarter does a good job. But, maybe just going north to Napa you'd find good stuff at the Fatted Calf? Or do they come to the Marin market?

Chilebrown, I didn't think you dominated-you obviously had strong feelings and I was happy you vented them in response to my post. You're not only welcome here, you're also correct about what the liverwurst looks like. :-D

Let's do a Kensington field trip some time. The Fatties don't come to Marin, and I'm not sure they do soft meat. :)

Cookiecrumb, that would be fun. It's a little market compared to Marin, très intime. :-)
