Happy Birthday, Earl
In 1718, noblewoman in England gave birth to a boy child, no doubt a welcome birth, as he was the heir to his father, a viscount and ultimately, due to the untimely death of his Dad, his grandfather, the 3rd Earl of Sandwich.
John was the 4th Earl. He was a bigwig in his day and a Big Whig, too. He even got Hawaii named for him. We know him best today for his supposed invention of the sandwich.
Have one in his honor today; it's his birthday.

Every day is a sandwich day! Thanks Earl.
Everything looks better on a pretty tiered plate stand. Even sandwiches!
(It's what's for dinner here tonight. Thanks for the history lesson.)
Greg, I'm with you - no need for a special day to enjoy a nice, big sandwich!
Cookiecrumb, isn't that the truth! My cousin gave me that plate and it has made many a meal look better. :-)
