Passing
Time passes. Life passes. If you're not careful, life passes you by. But, that can't be said of My Beloved's mother. She has had a fine life, all 93 years of it. She worked her way through Sarah Lawrence College, met and married the love of her life while doing what they both loved best, sailing, and raised three great kids.
She has four grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and a whole lot of related and unrelated people who think of her as a favorite aunt. She has been a mainstay of her church and her local Meals-on-Wheels program, always giving back to her community whether it be as scout den mother or volunteer at her college.
She is leaving us. We got the call while here in Hawaii on vacation and we are flying back to the east coast as soon as we can get there (why are airlines so damned unhelpful at times like this?), but we probably won't be in time to say goodbye. We'll have to be content with the time we had with her a couple of weeks ago. Those memories and a long lifetime of stories and remembrances will have to sustain us once she is gone. We are thankful we had that time.

I'm sorry to read this - she sounds like a lovely woman. I'm glad for the both of you that you had such a lovely visit over Thanksgiving. It's always a wrench when someone so beloved and giving dies but 93 happy, productive years on this earth are a good legacy.
Our thoughts are with you, Zoomie and MB. What a difficult time for you; all that travel, some of it tinged with sadness, and now apparently a final farewell.
I know you've known Sally a long time... and MB has obviously known her -- his whole life!
Please take plenty of warmth from your wonderful history with a woman who robustly kicked her way into the 21st Century. I wish her a loving exit.
So sorry. Hope you can get there in time.
I'm so sorry to hear your news, but so happy that you had some time to spend with her recently. I hope your travels bring comfort to you both, even if you don't arrive in time to comfort her.
I'm so sorry to hear this. My sympathies to you both. I hope you can make it in time, how horrid to have to travel so far...
But how wonderful that you spent some good time with her recently... Perhaps even more important, as you were able to have a lovely visit.
My own mother turned 92 yesterday...
My sympathies to you both, but it sounds like she was a loved person who will be remembered with smiles. A pretty good thing to know about a person.
So sorry to hear this! Luckily it wasn't so long ago that you last saw her. I hope the airlines suddenly become cooperative and whisk you there! Sounds like a wonderful woman to have in the family.
I'm so sorry to hear this. Big hugs to you and your family.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words - they mean a great deal coming from a community of folks I count as friends, even the ones I haven't yet met. More later!
