The Peaches Are Coming! The Peaches Are Coming!
The other day, while picking lemons, I checked on the peach tree that my work colleagues at SUNY Brockport gave My Beloved and me for a wedding present nine years ago. It lives down in the lower 40, too, so I don't visit it often.
It is simply covered with peaches this year, so many that even though they are still pretty small the branches are bowed down under their weight.
In this strange growing year, when zucchinis are difficult and tomatoes small and green, the peach tree seems to be thriving with abundant fruit and lush green foliage. Go figure!

My husband would be stalking you if he knew about your tree..
*sigh* Peaches... One of the few things my mother never tried to grow. I love REAL peaches like you show here. Not the manky things they try to pass off in the store. I hope our crops in BC are as good looking as yours!
So, when life gives you peaches -- make peach cobbler? Peach Ice Cream? Just fresh peaches? I am jealous because I love peaches and it's so difficult to get good ones.
Mom Taxi Julie, I might be stalking _him_ when the crop comes in - too many for just the two of us!
Nerissa, a good peach is a wonderful thing and a manky one a major disappointment.
Nancy, okay, I'll remember your fondness and make sure you get a few of these when they are ripe!
It's like we're writing each others' blogs these days...
Shall we arrange a pear/peach swap soon?
(We've been greatly relieved from the pressure of the bounty ever since we discovered the Marin Food Bank, BTW. So if you have something like that near you, it really makes life easier.)
A peach tree: What a super wedding present.
Would you, could you make a Peach & Pear Pie. We would like, Peace Soon!
White or yellow peaches? Both are lovely but white peaches just seem that little bit more special.
Cookie, we're like an old married couple who can complete each others' thoughts. Scary.
Chilebrown, ooooh, interesting idea! If there's an overlap between Cookiecrumb's pears and my peaches, I'll give it a try.
Morgan, mine are yellow but I agree the white are really da bomb! Sweeter than my yellow but mine are full of peachy flavor.
Do you have extra Peaches. I have Gravestein Apples for trade. (Tomatoes, Peppers, etc.)
Chilebrown, I will in about a month - mine ripen late. Will you give me apples and tomatoes on credit? :-)
Sure, Next weekend.
Great, how shall we meet? And, I want to be honest - the peaches seem smaller this year than last - but they are tasty no matter how big they get!
We could meet at Catahoulas Friday Morning. If you need them sooner, You can meet me at work. I work off the Richmond Parkway. I will have Apples and tomatoes for a while.
Chilebrown, I don't need them earlier than Friday as I hit the farmer's market recently. Let's plan on Catahoula's on Friday - what time?
