Afternoon Delight
Rainy day lunch. My Beloved detests hot dog buns, those gooshy, tasteless, squishy breads, so when I want hot dogs, I find other ideas for clothing his dogs.
I've been to Acme and purchased some of theirs, which are quite good, but it was raining (again!) and I didn't feel like a 20-minute jaunt in the car to stand in line in the rain (they really do need a canopy), even with the temptation of Café Fanny next door, so I improvised.
Cut hot dog lengths out of last night's sourdough baguette, grilled stripes into them, split the killer Coleman's hot dogs in half, and heated up some tomato soup from a box.
My Beloved has a great smile that really lights up his face. I got the smile when this hit the table.

I sub baguette for hot dog buns too.I even freeze them and warm them up when I need them. What topping do you use? I am a Dijon and dill relish guy.
Zoomie: You could try a flour tortilla. It makes a FUN dog, all rolled up.
I would smile too if my hot dogs were served on Acme bread. What a fantastic idea!
Greg, great idea to freeze the baguettes, especially when I have leftovers that will just be stale the next day. Thanks. I like mustard, sweet relish and catsup, Dijon when at home, ballpark when I'm at the ball park.
Cookiecrumb, I like that idea, too. The mental picture alone makes me smile. Less bready, too.
Nancy, why not hop on BART and come out for a day. I'll make you a hotdog on Acme. :-)
What a lovely invitation. I have been thinking about a trip to "over there." Right now, I've got spring lung crud which I would not inflict on anybody but once I'm better....
Nancy, I hope your lung crud heals fast and you are back out on the tiles, reviewing shows and writing blog posts!
