A Little Cioppino
In an effort to avoid overeating at the CIA, almost an impossibility, I ordered the appetizer size cioppino, a classic San Francisco dish that I had for some reason never tasted before.
It was served in an intriguing bowl designed to hold the shells of the sea creatures on the edge as you work your way down through the whole shrimp, delicate small clams and black bass, all bathed in a thick, savory tomato-based sauce with a tiny sting of heat at the end.
It was just enough and it was lovely - no wonder it has charmed generations of San Francisco diners!

"It was just enough and it was lovely..."
Blithely spoken, whilst mopping buckets of gale-force wind-driven rain from under her door...
Everything OK now?
"A Little Cioppino"...an oxymoron as no one will stand to eat just a little.
Thanks for taking me down SF memory lane!
I guess I'm in the minority here because I don't like cioppino. The taste of tomato and fish doesn't work for me as it makes the fish too "fishy" for my taste buds. But a big bowl of grilled or steamed fish with a dish of home made garlic mayonnaise on the side. YUMMY!
BTW- I post a recipe for Hopping John on your blog. I'm in the middle of a dozen art posts for my own blog and don't want to break the rhythm. The little gray cells can only handle one subject at a time.
Cookiecrumb, yes, things are better since we seem to have stopped shipping water, thanks to MB's jury rig of saran wrap taped to the window and anchored with a log! Will our DC relatives visit us again, however, after getting them to help with the messy job of keeping ahead of the water for three hours? Only time will tell. We bribed 'em with a lunch at Greens today so we might have a fighting chance!
Peter M, you're welcome! My pleasure - no, really!
NamasteNancy, I saw your recipe and replied to that to say THANK YOU! I'll try it next New Years Day, if not before! I'm not normally a fish-and-tomato fan either but I have to admit this cioppino was really good.
Love that bowl.
Saran Wrap. Food bloggers' solution to rain-seeping doors.
Good.
Peter, me, too! I love table ware anyway but that one was really cool!
Cookiecrumb, the kudos go to My Beloved - he invented the solution and, so far, it has been effective!
