Cookiecrumb, this is the first time I had tried the beans in shave ice. It was interesting. Not sure I'd order them again, but I'm glad I tried. They were whole beans, but tiny.
Evil Empress, yes, azuki beans but on the Big Island this time. We had lunch at Haleiwa Joe's but didn't have time to stop at any of the places you mentioned. :-)
