Rushing Summer

I didn't plant any tomatoes this year, discouraged and downcast as I was by last year's meager harvest. And, when I peek over my balcony at my neighbor's flourishing tomato plants, I don't see any ripe fruit yet. Hungry for that ripe tomato taste, however, I went to the market and paid an exorbitant price for several beautifully ripe heirlooms.

They were worth it. Just a dab of mayo or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and you have a feast for lunch. I'm rushing the tomato season. So, sue me.

  1. We will not have any ripe tomato's for at least a month. When we do we will have a ton and would love to share with you and Buzz.

  2. Not enough sun this year for early tomatoes. I've got one that should be ready in a couple of days!
(I think they invented mayonnaise for tomatoes.)

  3. My toms are sad this year too. Hopefully there will be a late harvest.

  4. Chilebrown, wow, that would be great! I'll bring you some strawberry jam in return. Thanks!

Cookiecrumb, I think you're right about the mayo.

Greg, I'll keep my fingers crossed for that late, bountiful, delicious harvest.

  5. I had a very meager harvest last year - 1 per plant I think. This year my vines are loaded.... but all green. Everyday I look and hope.
I really should give up gardening... I don't think I can take the stress!

  6. KatieZ, I know the feeling - the anxious perusal, the flaring hope when there's a hard little green fruit on the vine, the swelling anticipation as it grows, the downcast disappointment when the birds get there first or the weather doesn't cooperate for ripening. :-( But, what keeps us coming back is when the abundant fruit ripens into magical, lyrical deliciosity! Who can resist?
